A Soothing, Restorative Experience

A PCA peel facial treatment calms, soothes, and strengthens all skin types and conditions. It is a type of skin rejuvenation procedure involving chemical exfoliants, in which a skincare professional will apply a chemical solution to the patient's face. The solution comprises alpha and beta hydroxy acids, such as glycolic and salicylic acid. These acids break down the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to be easily removed from the skin's surface. And as part of our treatment, we even give you a take-home post-peel kit after completing your procedure.

Are PCA Treatments Right for Me?

PCA facial treatments are typically recommended for patients looking to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. The treatment can also help to unclog pores and reduce the severity of acne breakouts. Generally, anyone who wants to improve the appearance of their skin and reduce the signs of aging can benefit from PCA treatment. However, a few factors can make someone an excellent candidate for this type of skincare treatment. Typically, patients include:

  • Those with sun-damaged skin or hyperpigmentation
  • Those with acne-prone skin or those who suffer from frequent breakouts
  • People with dry or dull skin

Your Initial Consultation

We recommend a consultation at Dr. Will Thompson's Denver offices to ensure this process is right for you. After discussing your skin concerns and goals, our skincare professional will perform a skin analysis. This analysis may include examining the client's skin under a magnifying lamp or using a skin scanner to assess the skin's condition. They will look for issues such as dryness, oiliness, acne, wrinkles, and sun damage. Then they will explain the benefits of the treatment and what you can expect during and after the treatment.

The Day of Your Procedure

The first step of a PCA facial treatment is cleansing the skin to remove impurities and prepare it for the treatment. We will use a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin's surface. Next, we perform exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and reveal a brighter, smoother complexion. This will be done using chemical exfoliants like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). We can extract blackheads, whiteheads, and other impurities from the skin if necessary. Depending on the client's needs, this is done using a specialized tool or by hand. After exfoliation and extraction, a treatment mask is applied to the skin. The mask is chosen based on the client's skin type and concerns. For example, a hydrating mask may be used for dry skin, while a clarifying mask may be used for oily or acne-prone skin.

Recovery and Results

After a PCA treatment, the recovery process is typically straightforward. Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the treatment. However, following the doctor's post-treatment instructions ensures a smooth recovery. Patients may experience some redness, swelling, and tenderness at the treatment site immediately following the procedure. These side effects usually subside within a few hours to a few days. Applying ice to the treated area can help reduce swelling and discomfort. Avoiding direct sunlight and using a high-SPF sunscreen for at least a week after the procedure is also essential. This helps prevent further damage to the skin and ensures optimal healing.
