Part of the natural aging process is the loss of volume in the face. As facial volume diminishes, hollows may appear around the eyes, temples, cheeks, and jawline. This results in a gaunt or older appearance. A facial fat transfer can be performed to restore this lost volume and return a youthful facial shape.

What is a Fat Transfer?

A fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, involves removing fat from one area of the body where there is an excess of fat, then purifying that fat before injecting it into another area where volume has been lost. Facial fat transfer achieves natural-looking, long-lasting results. Fat may be removed from the abdomen, thighs, bra line, or other areas.

A gentle liposuction is performed. The fat cells are removed and purified carefully. These cells are then injected into the treatment areas on your face or neck with a syringe, causing no scarring or trauma on your face.

Your Consultation with Dr. Thompson

Before your facial fat transfer, you will have a private consultation with Dr. Thompson. During this consultation at his Denver office, he will understand your concerns, and examine your face and skin, and determine with this procedure is the best choice to meet your needs.

This is the time to ask questions, discuss any concerns you may have, and review your medical history. Based on your aesthetic goals and desires, Dr. Thompson may also recommend complementary procedures to further elevate your results. He will also perform a physical exam along with your comprehensive facial analysis.

How Long will my Facial Fat Transfer Results Last?

Facial fat transfer results are long lasting, and will not require repeat treatments to maintain results. However, do keep in mind that during the first month or so, for a period lasting approximately six weeks, some of the transferred fat cells will be reabsorbed by your body. This is a natural part of the process, and is expected and planned for in the amount of fat injected during the initial transfer.

Another point to keep in mind is that significant weight loss or gain will affect the results, just as weight fluctuations generally affected the appearance of your face prior to your procedure.
